The newest edition of the PSO2 Live Broadcast aired not too long ago. While it announced plenty of news regarding game elements such as Scratches, Quests, and the Casino, I’d like to take a moment to focus on this broadcast’s announcement of Sega collaboration content. Phantasy Star Online 2 is no stranger to promotion with franchises outside of Sega ownership, of course, but I personally think it’s nice to see Sega celebrating the franchises and people within the company.
The featured image shown above describes Scratch content for Shining Resonance. This includes weapon skins, character accessories, and costumes themed after Yuuma, Sonia, Kirika, Rinna, and Marion. Voice clips or “tickets” will also be available for these characters, too. This content is planned for release in the middle of June.

Also happening in Mid June is a “Sonic Event” scheduled for June 24th. This event is little more than a week earlier than the third anniversary of Phantasy Star Online 2’s PC release and is designed to celebrate the Japanese PSO2 anniversary. The ARKS Lobby will be mildly decorated with Sonic content. There will be Rings scattered in the lobby, and if all are collected an undisclosed surprise awaits. Also, a Sonic-themed Nyau will sometimes appear in the wild during the Sonic Event. They appear to wield Jet Boots that are useful for the Bouncer class.

Sega is also planning Virtual-On costumes and content for the month of July. While Virtual-On is not a series that’s received much activity as of late, it’s nice to see it is still remembered for the fans of the franchise. Special costume content featuring outfits from the first Phantasy Star Online game are also being planned for PSO2, to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Phantasy Star Online (which is quite a ways off in this year….but, okay!) Lastly, Sega announced that the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo will host this year’s ARKS Festival in August. The ARKS Festival is a convention specifically designed around Phantasy Star Online 2. A PSO2 Live Broadcast is planned at the ARKS Festival, as will be the 3rd annual Cosplay Contest. Also, the illustrious, popular, and feared Takenobu Mitsuyoshi will be present to perform a theme song made for the ARKS Festival, named “We’re ARKS!”. Mitsuyoshi is a big name in Sega music composition, who rather notably sang the Daytona USA theme song and composed for such games as Shenmue and Virtua Fighter 2.
