SEGA Aims to Support PSO2 for at Least Another 5 Years, and Take On “Growth Markets Overseas”

Sega-Sammy Holdings have released their annual report for 2017, where they discuss at length their plans for the future. There’s one particular sectoin from the report that I found rather interesting. The Online Content Divisional HQ’s operations center, among other things responsible for their PC online game area, intends to generate earnings continuously by 2020. A key part of that plan involves their online RPG Phantasy Star Online 2. Specifically, the group aims to execute three main action plans for the series:

Gravity Rush 2 - PSO2 Crazy Kitten Costume Available

Phantasy Star Online 2 Collaboration DLC for Gravity Rush 2 Now Available in the US and EU

In what is ultimately a surprising move, SIE Japan Studio have ended up releasing a set of free DLC for Gravity Rush 2 in the West, which includes the Phantasy Star Online 2 collaboration content that was previously released in Japan. It’s surprising because Phantasy Star Online 2 still hasn’t been released in the West, despite being announced back in 2012, and it seems unlikely to happen at this point. The good news is that this DLC is free, and Gravity Rush 2 itself is an excellent game that offers a gameplay experience unlike anything else out there. It’s well worth checking out, and a free demo is available on the PlayStation Store.

Gravity Daze 2 - PSO2 Crazy Kitten Collaboration

Phantasy Star Online 2 Collaboration DLC for Gravity Rush 2 Now Available in Japan

Sony has released the previously announced “Crazy Kitten” costume DLC for Gravity Rush 2 (Gravity Daze 2 in Japan) in Japan, allowing players to select a new outfit for Kat based on a costume from Phantasy Star Online 2. It also includes new PSO2 based photo items for players to place in the environment. The DLC is apparently still scheduled to be released for the West according to Sony Interactive Entertainment PR Yasuhiro Kitao, but it’s unclear when it will end up being released. The fact that it may end up being released at all is surprising enough, as SEGA still hasn’t released Phantasy Star Online 2 in the West.

Sony has uploaded a trailer for the Gravity Rush 2 DLC to YouTube, you can find that video below.

Phantasy Star Online 2 and NieR: Automata Collaboration Announced

I lost track of how many collaborations articles related to SEGA of Japan’s games we’ve posted here already, but it appears these events have been rather successful for SEGA as they’ve just announced another collaboration event for Phantasy Star Online 2. After Gravity Rush 2 earlier on, it’s now time for NieR: Automata to get a collaboration with SEGA’s online RPG.

A short trailer for the Phantasy Star Online 2 and Gravity Daze 2 collaboration has recently been shown during a Gravity Daze 2 promotional video). Sega-Sammy Revises Forecast, Expects Higher Profits for the First Half of the Fiscal Year

Sega-Sammy have released a revised forecast for the first half of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017 (from April 1, 2016 to September 30, 2016). While they expect lower net sales compared to their previous forecast, the contrary is true for their operating income. In particular, they expect to reach an operating income of 14,000 million yen (around $139 million), more than double the initial forecast of 6,500 million yen (around $64.5 million). Sega-Sammy attributes these results to several factors, which we discuss in more detail below.
