Valkyria: Azure Revolution Blog Update Features Helena and Blum

Some may remember that the official Japanese website for Valkyria Chronicles featured a blog  where the side characters Edy Nelson and Homer Peron exchanged thoughts about all sorts of topics related to the game. SEGA’s upcoming action-RPG Valkyria: Azure Revolution, set in the Valkyria Chronicles universe, now has a similar blog on its own website. This time, it features discussions between the childhood friends Helena Andersen and Blum Thomasson. Both are members of the Vanargand, an anti-Valkyria unit of the kingdom of Jutland. You can find the blog here.

At this point, there have been two blog updates, the latest one being published today. In the first one, Blum mentions the team is hard at work at analyzing the feedback received from the fans after the first demo. SEGA plans to release a second demo for the game later on, titled Battle Trial Version Ver. 2.0, with changes based on the feedback from the first demo.

In the second blog, Helena and Blum talk about the industrial revolution, driven by the discovery of a mineral called Ragnite in the 18th century. In the next 100 years, the world had changed drastically as a result of the use of Ragnite as a power source. This rapid industrial development also came to be called the “Azure Revolution”, referencing the distinct color of Ragnite. However, while it provided a lot of benefits to the society, Ragnite was inevitably also used as a power source for advanced weaponry. As with a lot of things in the Valkyria Chronicles universe, this mirrors real-world events from our own history, where the rise of steam power in the 18th century drastically changed our way of living, and also warfare.

In future blog updates, we’ll learn more about the story and the game itself. You can find four images from the official website below, featuring Helena, Blum and Brigitte of the Vanargand, and also Maxim, one of the game’s antagonists. Valkyria: Azure Revolution is scheduled to be released this Winter in Japan on the PlayStation 4. There’s been no word yet on a possible localization.
