Sakura Wars X Granblue Fantasy: Artwork, Videos and Possible Upcoming English Translation

Sakura Wars X Granblue Fantasy - Gemini Sunrise

Sakura Wars X Granblue Fantasy - Gemini Sunrise

The Sakura Wars X Granblue Fantasy collaboration event has already launched in Japan and is causing quite a stir. Even though cross-over events like this aren’t unusual, Granblue Fantasy is a rather popular mobile game in Japan, and Sakura Wars fans of course want to see more of their beloved franchise. This event also sees the return of Shinjiro, the protagonist of Sakura Wars 5, who wasn’t included in either of the Project X Zone games. The event is due to close on the 23rd of May in Japan.

In this post you can find a compilation of media from the Sakura Wars crossover event, and some gameplay videos of the event uploaded by fans. Given the relatively low resolution of the artwork available, we’ve upscaled the three artwork pieces featuring the main heroines and their mech units. Take a look below to see the result!

All of the seiyuu for the five Sakura Wars characters appearing in this cross-over (Chisa Yokoyama as Sakura, Noriko Hidaka as Erica, Sanae Kobayashi as Gemini, Akio Suyama as Ogami and Hisayoshi Suganuma as Shinjiro) will be reprising their roles. It seems that Ogami and Shinjiro don’t appear as playable units but nonetheless possess a story role for the collaboration event. As for the videos below, courtesy of Youtube users LTC and Rukaroa Itsumi, they show off dialogue and gameplay featuring the three main Sakura Wars heroines.

Granblue Fantasy launched on April 11 in North America. The Japanese version of the game actually has the option to switch to the English language, something that was added only recently by the developer, Cygames Japan. Reportedly, the Sakura Wars collaboration event will also be receiving a translation at a later date. For more information on the event, check out XEIi’s page here.

Without further ado, please enjoy the media below!

Original artwork

As Sakura Wars fans quickly noticed, the three artworks featuring the mech units above aren’t entirely original. In fact, they appear to have been traced based of existing designs, which were initially used for the Japanese PS2 boxart for Sakura Wars 5, the boxart for the PC version of the original Sakura Wars and art for a Pachi Slot machine from Sammy.
