Latest Shining Resonance DLC: Swimsuit Outfits, Grimoire Add-Ons

Media.Vision, the developers of Shining Resonance (and the same team that worked on Valkyria Chronicles III,) have continued to support Shining Resonance with DLC since its launch in Japan last year. The team is releasing its sixteenth and final batch DLC on the 30th Japan time; continue reading to see what’s to be expected. The Japanese official website for Shining Resonance chronicles each release of DLC in its own Downloadable Content section, which can be viewed here.

First, new varieties of swimsuit costumes will be available for Sonia and Marion. The female characters will have a large wardrobe for the beach or pool, considering the costume DLC that’s been released for them so far. Each costume is worth ¥463.

A Grimoire update (Volume 6) is also going to be available in the new round of DLC. Grimoires are a randomized dungeon feature that is available through DLC and can be customized through elements such as “Sigils” found in-game and purchased as DLC. Grimoires are inessential to the game’s completion but provide unique combat experiences and optimal farming environments. Siliconera writes that Volume 6 raises the level cap (another adjustable feature of the Grimoires) of the dungeons to 200, which allows for more difficult fights that yield greater rewards.

They also explain the basic structure behind a Grimoire. It consists of three floors, with a party of the player’s choosing that remains fixed throughout the dungeon. You start at the first floor, and progress to the next floor by reaching the “Gate”, which functions as the entrance point to the next floor. Gates are guarded by monsters, and the end of the Grimoire’s last floor features a powerful boss. The idea for the most part isn’t necessarily to simply complete the dungeon, but to hopefully yield some great spoils while on the journey. Grimoires can also be themed dungeons, like a desert or volcano, and may feature enemies that fit into that particular location. Famitsu released a video detailing what traversal through a Grimoire may look like, shown below. Party characters run through a few different types of Grimoires in the video.

There will also be two Sigils available in this round of DLC. One Sigil pits the party against shadow variants of Marion and Rinna, and the other Sigil pits the party against shadow variants of Excella and Jenius. The latter group of two are not normally available as party characters unless purchased as DLC. Both Sigils cost ¥93 each.

The game’s prolific run of DLC is about on par with the Project DIVA series or Bandai Namco’s Tales series. As far as Japanese titles go, these games tend to represent fairly aggressive offerings of DLC, and as franchises they tend to be consistent in their production of DLC too.
