Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne Now Available on PSN (Updated!)

Atlus had previously teased an upcoming release and this was recently revealed to be Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne as part of the PS2 classics line on Playstation Network.  The game will cost $9.99 and you can purchase the game here.  Unfortunately, Nocturne will not be available in Europe at this time (where it is subtitled Lucifer’s Call).  Ghostlight is aware of the release but unable to comment further.  They are still trying to bring Digital Devil Saga to PSN, but emulation problems previously delayed the games indefinitely.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne marked the revival of the franchise overseas.  Only a few titles such as Last Bible (Revelations in the West), Demikids, Persona 1 and 2, and Jack Bros made it over previously.  These are, for the most part, odds and ends that lacked the SMT branding in localization.

Nocturne stood out for its noticeably dark story and themes and brutally honest difficulty.  Dante from Devil May Cry also may have had a hand in marketing the game too, as the Devil May cry franchise was pretty new and popular at the time.  The Press Turn battle system is my personal favorite of the genre, where you can earn or lose turns based on elemental weaknesses/resistances.  Another aspect I like is the recruitment mechanic where you can talk to your enemies and negotiate with them.  You can get them to join your party or convince them to give you money and items.  It adds a layer of depth to the world you explore.
