Etrian Mystery Dungeon: English Hexer Trailer

Atlus USA released this week’s character class trailer. It’s the Hexer, and if utilized right a Hexer can put the fear into your enemies. Or confuse them, render them immobile, poison them – Hexers specialize in debuffing your enemies, crippling them and making them more vulnerable. It can sometimes be a more helpful approach than just simply attacking an enemy with strong spells or physical blows.

Of course, the #EMDMysterybox promotion is also continuing, so if you want to participate share the video on Facebook or Twitter.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon: English Dancer Video

Atlus USA’s weekly dosage of Etrian Mystery Dungeon character class videos continues with the Dancer. They excel at party buffing and possess unique attacks. They often move quickly, too, which can be especially helpful when buffing their allies.

Atlus USA’s #EMDMysterybox promotion is still continuing, so share the Dancer video on Facebook or Twitter if you’d like a chance at some Atlus swag.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon: English Gunner Video

Atlus USA’s weekly Etrian Mystery Dungeon character class video series continues with the Gunner class. The Gunners specialize in ranged combat, as you might expect, but what some may not know about them are their special skills that allow Gunners to bind the limbs of their enemies. This allows Gunners to bind enemies’ arms to prevent them from attacking, or bind enemies’ legs to hamper their mobility. Beyond that, Gunners can also attack in unconventional formations and fire healing bullets to their allies.

Atlus USA’s #EMDMysterybox promotion is continuing this week too, so be sure to share the video on Facebook or Twitter if you would like to enter. Continue reading to check out the video and to read Atlus USA’s description of the Gunner class.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon: English Medic Trailer, North American Website Up

Atlus released their next character class video for this week. The trailer shines a spotlight on the Medic, a specialized healer class and a staple archetype in class-based RPG’s.

The #EMDmysterybox promotion also continues with the Medic video so be sure to share the video on Facebook or Twitter if you want to participate. There’s no mention of the end of the promotion for sharing the Medic video but based on previous videos, it should end early next week.

I’d also like to take the time to draw attention to the recent launching of the North American Etrian Mystery Dungeon website. It’s quite similar to the Japanese Etrian Mystery Dungeon website; even the color scheme viewing options for different classes are left intact. There are some omissions from the Japanese website like some videos, wallpapers (to be added later) and Twitter icons. However, now that all of the content is English elements of the game are more readily understandable, like localized names for the game’s systems and what certain Skills do. It is nevertheless nice to see attention in the form of elements like a website and preorder links through retailers being devoted to this new game.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon: English Runemaster Video, Upcoming Japanese Nico Stream with Atlus and Spike Chunsoft

This week Atlus USA released a video for Etrian Mystery Dungeon’s Runemaster class, the analogue to a traditional mage: squishy defenses, elemental attacks, and all. Atlus’s description, following the company’s custom of using quirky descriptions for the game’s classes can be seen below:

Is there anything better than roasting your enemies by hurling giant balls of fire at them? Or calling down a deadly maelstrom to zap your enemies into oblivion? Maybe you’re the type who likes to impale enemies on deadly lances made of ice? Yep, that’s probably the right one. Lances made of ice. Ice lances.

Well then Etrian Mystery Dungeon’s Runemaster has your name written all over it! This staff-wielding master of elements is a walking force of nature, throwing out direct damage elemental attacks or summoning powerful AoE spells, the Runemaster is a potent damage dealer. Just remember to bring a Protector along, because a Runemaster won’t last long if an enemy is whaling on it.

In other news, Atlus of Japan and Spike Chunsoft employees are planning to stream Etrian Mystery Dungeon in Japanese through Nico Nico on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 5:00PM Japan Standard Time. It’s the closer of a larger stage event that day, following after Chain Chronicle event.

If you are interested in watching the stream for this event, you’ll need to sign up for a Nico Nico account. Registration instructions are available in English by visiting the nicovideo homepage, however the streams will still be conducted in Japanese without English language support.

Continue reading to check out the video for the Runemaster! Like last week’s Protector video, Atlus notes that those who share the video for the Runemaster have a chance to obtain swag from the Etrian Mystery Box, so be sure to share the video on Facebook on Twitter if you want to participate. The video also features the hashtag #EMDmysterybox, so you may want to make use of the hashtag also if entering. The video description notes that the second winner will be chosen on the 3rd of February.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon: North American Early Print Bonuses, Protector Trailer, Special Atlus Promotion

Pictured above is an early promotional image describing the bonuses found in early North American copies of Etrian Mystery Dungeon. The items include a special outer box cover (similar to Project X Zone’s Limited Edition, for those looking for reference,) a 28-page artbook that also includes information on basic elements of the game like class descriptions, and the “Rough Sketch Ver.” soundtrack CD, which contains six tracks that are “work-in-progress” versions of background music found in Etrian Mystery Dungeon. The final designs of the items are subject to change.

Atlus also released an English trailer for the Protector class, the tanks of the series. Perhaps Atlus will be steadily releasing trailer for each class over time, leading up to the game’s April 7 release? Atlus USA also is offering a special prize (to be announced later) for a randomly chosen fan who shares the Protector trailer on Facebook or Twitter. It’s worth noting that part of the trailer’s title is “10 Weeks of Giveaway Info!” so this program could be an extended affair. If you’d like to participate, be sure to get on it! The video description says that the “first winner” will be chosen next Tuesday, or January 27.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon: US Release Date, Landsknecht Trailer, Early Copy Bonus

Atlus announced an April 7th, 2015 U.S. release date for Etrian Mystery Dungeon during today’s Nintendo Direct. The game will be made available through physical packages and the Nintendo 3DS eShop. First-print copies and preorder copies will also come with a bonus soundtrack CD for the game, though it isn’t entirely clear if the bonus CD will contain the entirety of the game’s soundtrack. There was an English trailer made viewable through today’s Nintendo Direct to promote the game, but it’s actually the same trailer made available during the end of December of last year. It is however, nice to see Atlus and Nintendo promoting the game.

In fact, a while ago AtlusUSA streamed themselves playing the game, a YouTube video of which can be found here.

A trailer for the Landsknecht class was also made available today…in English! The video is not a carbon copy of the Swordsman video produced for Japan. To accompany the trailer, Atlus also provided a description for viewers to check out, alongside a general press release description for the game. Continue reading to check out both.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon: Wanderer and Battle System Videos, Skill Info

Gematsu recently published a new article containing a couple of helpful videos and some information on special skills for the new Wanderer class. The information for the Wanderer class was found on the Wanderer subcategory of the official website’s Character Maker section. If you visit the Character Maker section, you can also check out pages for the nine other announced classes. Each character class’s page allows you to check out color variations by clicking on the number icons found underneath the character art.

To get back to the Wanderer class, the site lists three Representative Skills and one Special Blast Skill. The Wanderer’s Representative Skills include Stone, Hunt, and Tunnel, and the Special Blast Skill for this class is Gust. The descriptions for the skills are below, quoted directly from Gematsu:

Representative Skills

  • Stone – Throws a rock at an enemy within an arc-shaped radius and damages them.
  • Hunt – An attack that affects any enemies in front of the caster; if the enemy is either a bird or animal type, extra damage is inflicted. A weapon is required in order to cast it.
  • Tunnel – Destroys walls up to three spaces away in front of the caster.

Special Blast Skill

  • Gust – Creates a sudden burst of wind that blows enemies around in a given room. It won’t outright defeat them, however.

It isn’t entirely clear what the meaning is between the delineation of the different types of skills. It doesn’t seem like the skill hierarchy is carried over directly from Etrian Odyssey IV, at least; Auto-Resurrect, Knockout Blow and Party Heal are all Representative Skills for the Medic. It appears Etrian Mystery Dungeon will have its own skill hierarchy.

I’d like to add that the official website for the game does feature some interesting additional content; there is a wide variety of Twitter icons featuring color and gender variations for different classes if you go to the Special section of the website.

Be sure to continue reading to check out the videos!

Gematsu recently compiled a new batch of Etrian Mystery Dungeon trailers. I’ve included them here in this writeup for your viewing, along with a couple of my comments for each video. Please note that the trailers are in Japanese, and there are currently no subtitles for them.

With that said, check them out below! The second promotional trailer is about three minutes long, and the other three videos range from about half of a minute to a minute.
