Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax Coming to PS3 and Vita in Japan

Sega and French-Bread’s arcade 2d fighter Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax will be ported to PS3 and Vita this fall in Japan, as reported by Gematsu.  The game is a crossover between series published under the light novel imprint Dengeki Bunko (from publisher ASCII Media Works).  Shakugan no Shana, Sword Art Online, Durarara!!, Black Bullet and A Certain Magical Index are among the many confirmed series.  A few SEGA references are set to appear in the game, such as Akira from Virtua Fighter appearing as the game’s boss character, and SEGA franchise-themed stages like the Valkyria Chronicles-inspired stage shown above.  There are no further details about home version exclusive features just yet.

What are the chances of seeing this game overseas?  Well, anything is possible.  French-Bread’s previous crossover, AquaPazza, was localized by Atlus.  Quite a few series represented in this game have popular anime and manga adaptations worldwide too.

Shining Resonance’s Battle System Detailed

4Gamer recently published an article offering more details on some general combat mechanics and some character-specific tidbits within the battle system. Siliconera offers some translated help.

Once you approach close enough to a monster or a party of monster, the game will seamlessly transition into battle mode. It’s not immediately clear, but it’s possible that battles will take place within a bounded arena à la the modern Tales games – so there are seamless transitions like Xenoblade, but perhaps not with the ability to evade freely. You also have the option of issuing quick, general commands to your A.I. allies helping you in battle.

The 4Gamer article seems to promise unique attacks for each character and combo possibilities specific to certain pairs. It also speaks a little more regarding offensive mage types – they are called Dragners, who use their instruments to attack with various powers of nature. It seems Rinna most readily identifies with wind elemental powers while Agnam identifies with fire, but that isn’t to say more elements won’t be available in the future. Most surprisingly, it seems that there’s a certain risk to Irvan’s dragon form; apparently the risk of Irvan going berserk increases the longer he is in his dragon form!

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd Gets English Lyric Translations!

Sega announced that Project Diva F 2nd will be getting an English translation for the song lyrics, a feature that was often requested by fans ever since the first Project Diva F was localized and only had the lyrics available in romaji (the original Japanese lyrics written in Latin alphabet). There are plenty of people who play the Project Diva games but don’t know Japanese, so this feature not only allows them to understand the lyrics but it also adds much needed context to the music videos shown in the background during gameplay.

Sega Announces Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI Remix for the West

Today Sega announced Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Remix (working title) for 3DS during a Hatsune Miku chat show broadcasted on Niconico. As announced on Sega West’s blog, Project Mirai Remix will be an enhanced version of Project Mirai 2 (which was only released in Japan). The release of the game also marks the 5th anniversary of the Sega featuring Hatsune Miku Project. The game is scheduled to be released in Asia, North America and Europe in 2015. It will feature two rhythm modes (Touch and Button), StreetPass function and an Augmented Reality (AR) feature.

Following the news of the 5th Anniversary, an update on the official blog of Sega’s Hatsune Miku games revealed that 2.5 million copies of the series have been shipped in Japan alone. Since 5 years, Hatsune Miku has starred in numerous Sega published titles ranging from the original PSP titles to Mirai on Nintendo 3DS. While these numbers don’t include the localized Project Diva F, we already know Sega was pleased with the sales of the game, as evidenced by the fact that they will be releasing Project Diva F 2nd on the PS3 and PS Vita later this year.

Atlus and Sega Games at Anime Expo

Both Sega and Atlus will be present at the upcoming Anime Expo (this week, July 3-6 at the Los Angeles Convention Center), with Atlus showing their upcoming Persona games and Sega showing Project DIVA F 2nd. Although Aaron Webber’s departure from Sega means he won’t be at the expo, Sam Mullen confirmed he will be there to welcome the fans. Earlier on, Aaron Webber did hint they may have a special surprise regarding Project DIVA F 2nd at the expo. It seems that surprise might be the following announcement for a Project Diva F tournament at the Sega booth where you can win tickets for the Hatsune Miku Expo in LA. Continue reading »

Phantasy Star Nova Cutscene Videos

It’s a veritable supernova of media!

In the past few weeks Phantasy Star Nova has awoken from its post-announcement slumber. Gematsu reports that Sega broadcasted three cutscene videos from Phantasy Star Nova on Nico Nico. These voice-acted cutscenes serve to establish the three lead characters’ personalities. Lutia comes across as an excitable cheeseball (why is she posing before attacking the Gigantes?), but adorable. Phildia means business. Seil was not as prominent but seemed like an inoffensive, well-meaning and inviting goof.

The first video is a slice of life interaction video. The second one shows off a new and rather unique-looking Gigantes. The third video shows Phildia taking on the horned, quadrupedal Gigantes first revealed in early promotional materials for the game. Check out the videos after the break.
