SEGA Announces SEGA 3D Classics Collection for the Americas!

SEGA of America has issued a press release today to announce that the SEGA 3D Classics Collection for the Nintendo 3DS will be heading to the Americas! The collection will contain the following games, which are all remastered versions of the original Master System/Genesis (Mega Drive) games:

  • Power Drift
  • Puyo Puyo 2
  • Maze Walker
  • Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa
  • Fantasy Zone II W
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Thunder Blade
  • Galaxy Force II
  • Altered Beast

While the collection doesn’t contain all of the 3D Classics games released so far, it does include four games that hadn’t been released in the West before (Power Drift, Puyo Puyo 2, Fantasy Zone 2 and Maze Walke). There’s also good news for those who prefer owning a physical version of their games! The collection will be made available both digitally on the Nintendo eShop and physically in retail stores on April 26, 2016, for the price of $29.99/CA$44.99. An official website has also been made available.

As for Europe, there’s been no announcement so far. While we can probably expect at least a digital release there, I hope that we’ll also get to see the physical version. Below, you can take a look at screenshots of the various games in the collection (courtesy of SEGA), and also watch the Japanese trailer for the SEGA 3D Reprint Archives 2 collection, which is the Japanese equivalent of this release. Perhaps with a bit of luck, we’ll also get to see the SEGA 3D Reprint Archives 1 collection released in the West?

Great news, hopping for an euro release. A digital only release would be a no no for me, having all of the original digital titles already bought, I love Puyo Puyo, have all the Japanese releases, but nope, at least getting it retail I can save some space in my SD card by deleting some games.

Btw… isn’t it strange they released the second collection ignoring the first one? I will guess certain hedgehog has something to do with this decision… it’s surprising they didn’t call it “sonic’s 3D classic collection” as well… but this of course, has generated some comments in some places, asking for outrun and space harrier…
