“Virtua Fighter” Trademark Renewed by SEGA

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything from Virtua Fighter. The Virtua Fighter 5 series of games saw its first release in Japanese in June of 2006, marking ten years of play and activity. But as several fighting game franchises see new installments, you have to wonder what comes next for the seminal 3D fighting game franchise.

Trademarkia confirms the renewal of the Virtua Fighter trademark by SEGA. The website lists the renewal confirmation date as 7/4/2016. Good news for Virtua Fighter fans! There is no guarantee that a new game is being made, and there is no suggestion as to what project, if any, related to the franchise might be in development. But hopefully something does indeed come from this – whether it be a Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown remaster, some sort of compilation of the games, or even Virtua Fighter 6! The latter would be particularly big news for Virtua Fighter fans!
