Project DIVA Arcade: Future Tone on PS4 Will be Split in Two Versions, Sold at “Bargain” Price

SEGA of Japan have revealed some more information on the Japanese release of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Arcade Future Tone on the PlayStation 4. In fact, the game won’t actually be released as Project DIVA Arcade Future Tone. Rather, the game will be split into two separate versions. The “Future Sound” version will contain about 120 songs from those featured in SEGA’s Project DIVA series. The other version, titled “Colorful Tone”, will contain about 100 songs, featuring those from the arcade version of Future Tone and the “Project Mirai” series on the Nintendo 3DS.

Combined, these two versions will contain over than 220 songs and over 340 modules (character costumes). These modules can be used to customize the up-to-six characters that appear in the music videos. Project DIVA Arcade on PS4 will also be the first Project DIVA game to allow players to configure key inputs, even allowing one physical key press to be translated into multiple key presses in-game. The game is also confirmed to run at a 1080P resolution with a 60fps framerate.

While the price of these games has yet to be announced, SEGA assures fans they will be sold at a “bargain” price. Of course, it’s not quite clear what SEGA sees as a bargain price. Considering that a typical Project DIVA game contains around 40 songs, I think it’s unlikely that either of these project DIVA Arcade versions will be cheaper than a regular new Project DIVA game upon release.

It’ll be interesting to see how SEGA handles the release of Project DIVA Arcade and that of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X, which will also be released on the PlayStation 4 this fall. Technically, Project DIVA Arcade looks considerably more advanced than any of the Project DIVA games we’ve seen so far, and it’s unclear how much of a technical upgrade Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X will be receiving for its PlayStation 4 version. In addition, Project DIVA Arcade contains a lot more songs, while it lacks the other modes featured in Project DIVA X (such as Quest mode and Live Edit mode). Regardless of how it turns out, Project DIVA fans have a lot to look forward to. As of yet, neither Project DIVA Arcade or Project DIVA X have been announced for the West. A situation that we hope will change! If you’d like to see the game in action, we included the original launch trailer for Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Arcade Future Tone here:
