Atlus Moving Forward on EU Localizations? Odin Sphere Leifthrasir – Q2 2016, EFIGS

Atlus CEO Naoto Hiraoka made some interesting comments regarding business plans for Atlus’s products moving forward – more specifically regarding release of Atlus products outside of Japan. This by way of Gematsu‘s translation of a Japanese Playstation Blog post featuring a reprinting of Hiraoka’s comments to a recent issue of Dengeki Playstation. By the way, if you didn’t already know, the Japanese Playstation Blog has been host to quite a few entries featuring Yakuza content as of late, so it’s been receiving quite some content featuring Sega properties.

I’ve reproduced the comments that Gematsu translated below, directly:

“In terms of the marketplace, from here on I want to put even more strength into our overseas efforts,” Hiraoka said. “Up until a few years ago, there were some things, including the development of our international website, that we left to staff overseas. However, in recent years we’ve been wanting to make sure everyone gets the same information, so we made it so you can jump to the global website from the home page of the official site in Japanese.”

Hiraoka continued: “As you can also see from the close Japanese and foreign release dates for Dragon’s Crown in 2013 due to its online elements, the barrier between the domestic and overseas market is dying. As for Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, it will go on sale in America on June 7 and in Europe in Q2, and while it is slightly delayed from the Japanese release date, it will not only be localized into English, but also French, Italian, German, Spanish for a total of five languages.

What is mentioned here regarding websites and information is already observable. As my colleague Draikin pointed out, the English page for Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F is actually hosted on Sega’s Japanese domain for Project DIVA games. While not Atlus-related, with Atlus being a part of Sega the point should be clear. If Sega West hosted it then it might offer its own signal about Sega West, but this is nice to see in any case.

Such comments do seem positive, in any case. Atlus has historically not had the strongest presence in Europe, whether in the form of a delayed release for Shin Megami Tensei IV or the lack of self-managed localizations for their products in Europe. In the past year NISAmerica handled distribution of Atlus titles. It isn’t entirely clear that Atlus will be publishing games themselves in Europe, so let us see what the company does with its next titles.

It’s interesting to note that Atlus sees the “domestic vs overseas barrier” as dissipating. Those are rather confident words. Sega has vowed to learn from Atlus since the latter’s acquisition, so one can hope that such a mindset is incorporated into the former’s company culture. Sega has been of the opinion that it’s important to adapt their games for Western tastes, but Atlus’s philosophy on localization doesn’t seem to view that as similarly necessary, or at least not to an especially significant degree. Atlus seems to take a stronger position on the “niche-ness” of their titles, and Sega so far seems keen on more broader reception of the comparatively niche IPs within their own stable.

The promise of an EFIGS localization is quite exciting, and a release window of Q2 2016 for Europe puts the region in close company with the US. This might bode well for Atlus and European Atlus fans!

Stella Glow EU Release Date: March 11, 2016

Following the recent announcement of The Legend of Legacy‘s release date on February 5th, NISAmerica has revealed that Stella Glow will release in Europe on March 11 of next year. It’s good spacing for both of the titles. It also means that most all recent Nintendo 3DS games under the Sega/Atlus banner have been localized so far, barring 7th Dragon III Code: VFD. The importance of including Europe in localization decisions is important, so as to avoid situations like Guilty Gear Xrd: -SIGN- or Shin Megami Tensei IV, though nobody involved wants to repeat anything similar to those titles again.

This was Imageepoch’s last title before they shut down. Besides this, they were also involved in development for the 7th Dragon series.

Legend of Legacy Avalon

The Legend of Legacy EU Release Date: February 5, 2016

NISAmerica has recently announced a release date of February 5, 2016 for The Legend of Legacy, the 3DS turn-based RPG developed by FuRyu. Both physical and digital copies will be available for purchase. The game came out in North America a couple of weeks ago, if you weren’t aware (I have my copy, and started the game by choosing Bianca!)

NISAmerica also uploaded their own version of a character introduction trailer to their YouTube channel. This one features Bianca and Meurs. Functionally, it’s the same as what we’ve seen before, as it shows you clips of a character walking around, some battle scenes, and a couple of character-specific cutscenes. You can check it out after the break.

SEGA and ATLUS Games Discounted in EU PlayStation Store October Sales!

Sony has a bunch of games on sales on their EU PlayStation Store in October, and those include several Sega and Atlus games! The official blog post again didn’t note the actual discounted price in their list, so I took the time to add them to the list below for your convenience. For those in the EU, take a look and see if there’s anything you’d like to add to your collection! The sales will run until October 21, 2015.

Yakuza 4 is also listed as discounted, but this may be a mistake. Resonance of Fate was also shown with a discount, but some reported that once you add it to your basket it returned to full price. The discount has since been removed for Resonance of Fate, so I think the same might happen for Yakuza 4 (I can’t verify if it’s full price once added to the basket, since I own the game). I also included Hyperdimension Neptunia ReBirth3: V Generation, given the franchise’s ties to Sega.

Persona 4 Dancing Naoto

Persona 4: Dancing All Night Naoto Trailer + Europe Release Date!

AtlusUSA has released another character trailer: this one features Naoto. I feel like this is such a perfect environment for Naoto despite what the premise of the game might suggest. There’s a mystery to solve, her self-serious and driven nature can help her with dancing and expressing herself, and she’s actually just…cool. In a way that the other characters don’t capture.

Additionally, NISAmerica has announced that Persona 4: Dancing All Night will release in Europe on November 6th! In our previous article about RiceDigital’s Midnight Stage edition, the same release date was noted for the standard and Midnight Stage editions, according to the preorder pages for the two products.

NISAmerica also described the contents of the “Disco Fever” edition for Europe. Looks to be the same between both Europe (as noted by Gematsu) and North America!

Be sure to continue reading to check out the trailer. Naoto’s voice has definitely been changed (and has changed quite often throughout recent Persona 4-related titles) so keep an ear out.

Midnight Stage Edition P4AD Europe

Persona 4: Dancing All Night “Midnight Stage Edition” Coming to Europe

RiceDigital has announced a special Midnight Stage Edition of Persona 4: Dancing All Night for European gamers, a specific package offered only by them. It is priced at £34.99, as opposed to the standard edition’s £29.99. The Midnight Stage Edition comes with Tarot Card Set #1 (which came with select copies of Persona 4: Arena Ultimax) and a Junes-themed T-Shirt. All of the goods are pictured above, taken directly from RiceDigital’s announcement page for the Midnight Stage Edition. RiceDigital themselves have previously offered special packages for Persona 4: Arena Ultimax and Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, among their Persona-related offerings.

Additionally, you’ll be able to choose the size of the Junes shirt that you want, among small, medium, large, and extra-large. You’ll also be able to choose the country you want to ship your package to.

It’s not the same offering as the “Disco Fever” Edition but it’s rare to see something (the T-Shirt) be offered as an exclusive from a Europe-based retailer that North America doesn’t already have access to.

RiceDigital is also offering the Standard Edition as a purchasable option, and those who have preordered the Standard Edition will be able to change their purchase option prior to the game’s release.

The release date shown for the Midnight Stage Edition is November 6th of this year.

Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker EU Preorder Page Up, Some Bonus Items Absent

NISAmerica, who has been handling distribution of Atlus-related products in Europe in recent times, put up a product page that is taking preorders for Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker. Early copies for European gamers will include the decal set that came with North American early copies, but unfortunately other additional goods including the bonus soundtrack CD and collector’s outer box are absent.

Copies are priced at £24.99, which is not too far a departure (slightly lower, even) from the standard retail price schedule of North American games. Maybe the absence of the CD and outer box contributed to the relatively lower price? The release date is still set for Fall 2015, as of this article’s writing.
