The King of Fighters XIV: “Official Invitation” Team Trailer

New week, new The King of Fighters XIV team trailer. This one features a trio of new faces. Very colorful people, with the exception of the bleak (but deadly) Kukri. Swanky stage background, too.

Reminder that The King of Fighters XIV will be present at the fighting game tournament CEO 2016 both as a competitive event and as a game that can be demoed by players. CEO 2016 is taking place this weekend. It’s an opportunity to view more footage of the game, if you weren’t already satisfied with E3 2016.

Anyway, check out the new team trailer below. For this article, we’ll post Atlus’ press statement describing the three new characters after the trailer.

The King of Fighters XIV:Team Official Invitation

So what does a crack team of ultimate fighters look like? First up is Sylvie, a former member of the shadowy NESTS organization, whose modified body allows her to unleash electrical attacks on opponents. While those powers are deadly on their own, what makes her so dangerous is the fact that she’s as nutty as a fruitcake. Apologies, they call that “being quirky” nowadays right? Just look at her crazy eyeball-themed outfit and completely unpredictable attacks! Next up is Kukri, the mysterious hooded underground fighter whose gritty personality compliments his ability to wield sand. I mean, just imagine fighting someone who constantly attacks with pocket sand and multiply that by a thousand to get Kukri. Lastly, we’ve got the magnificent Mian who turns every fight into a performance worthy of the Chinese Opera. She’s skilled at Bian Lian — the art of face-changing — and her attacks involve a lot of graceful and vigorous dance moves.

The King of Fighters XIV E3 2016 Trailer, KOF XIV Arcade Stick By HORI

Atlus has uploaded a promotional trailer for The King of Fighters XIV, in line with its presence at E3 2016. At E3 2016, KOF XIV has had player exhibitions available for periods of time each day so far in order for newcomers to get a taste for the game. And perhaps…for players to stomp on their opponents.

Additionally, HORI is producing a line of The King of Fighters XIV arcade sticks for the PlayStation 4. ArcadeShock is running their own preorder promotion, priced at $159.99 at this page. Very early preorders (the first 40) will be eligible to receive a KOF XII plastic folder and a KOF XIII soundtrack disc. These items were not made commercially available at the time of KOF XII and KOF XIII’s release. It’s worth noting that while US-based, ArcadeShock ships items worldwide.

The arcade stick will also be available through other sellers, of course. This Download3K article also provides some technical specifications of the arcade stick, a segment of which I will quote:

According to the technical characteristics, the keys are 1,4 mm thinner than the normal ones, reducing the press motion by 0,3 mm. Furthermore, the controller will have a touch pad on back, programmable actions, L1, L2 and auto fire buttons with frequencies 5, 12 and 20 times per second. Features such as lightbar, sixaxis support, vibration, motion sensors, speakers or headphone jack will not exist.

With that said, view the trailer below! The King of Fighters XIV releases in North America, Japan, and Europe on August 23rd, 25th, and 26th, respectively.

The King of Fighters XIV represents an evolution of the respected fighting game series, so what better way to celebrate than with a premium edition packed with awesome goodies? Although the folks at SNK are working around the clock to make KOF XIV one of the most competition friendly games in the genre, they took the time and effort to help us create a premium package worthy for those who live, breathe, and eat fighting games. King of Fighters XIV – Fatal Fury Team Trailer

Another week, another team trailer for King of Fighters XIV. And this one is a heavy-hitter, much like the star of the team – Terry Bogard. The Fatal Fury team features a very iconic lineup of characters amongst the KOF cast, with Terry, his brother Andy, and Joe Higashi in tow. Some of you may remember that there were Fatal Fury fighting games decades ago starring these three characters. And Terry was also the co-lead in Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Needless to say, this is a popular group.

Now, things have changed. For example, Terry Bogard twists his cap back for his new Climax Cancel move! And, Andy Bogard and Mai Shiranui are finally dating each other! For two people who clearly liked each other, that took long enough.

In any case, check out the trailer below to see some of the familiar and the new aspects of the Fatal Fury team characters.

KOF XIV - Team Gameplay Trailer #3 “FATAL FURY”

King of Fighters XIV Release Date Announced, Published By Deep Silver

Deep Silver has announced that it will be publishing King of Fighters XIV in Europe, allaying the fears of KOF fans or fighting game fans who were worried about the game’s position in Europe. King of FIghters XIV will release on August 26 in Europe, for €59.99 / £49.99 and with both physical retail copies and digital purchases as an option. The release date is nice in the sense that it follows the Japanese August 25 release date, while North America receives the game on August 23. On a related note, the KOF series is noticeably popular in the Americas, though still niche…

Anyway, much of the information contained in the press statement should sound familiar (it recounts features of KOF XIV, the general concept for the beginner-friendly direction of the title that hopes to rein in more fans, etc.) But in addition to this, the CEO of Koch Media offers some comments on acquiring and publishing King of Fighters XIV, saying that they “are looking forward to adding THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV to Deep Silver’s portfolio” and that publishing the newest title in “such an iconic fighting series in Europe, the first time on PS4, supplements our roster of Deep Silver games nicely.”

Deep Silver is a game publishing company that has published a variety of big name and niche titles in Europe so far – with regards to Japanese niche game output, some of their upcoming published titles that our readers may be familiar with include Mighty No. 9 and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Deep Silver is also owned by Koch Media in Germany, a company that you might be familiar with. Koch Media was involved with the distribution of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and Persona 4 Dancing All Night in Europe, though SEGA Europe was still acting as a publisher.

With NISAmerica backing out of future publishing collaborations with Atlus in Europe, one has to wonder if we might see more of a presence from Deep Silver (acting as publisher) and Koch Media (acting as distributor.) Let’s see if Deep Silver will be publishing any more Sega or Atlus titles!

King of Fighters XIV: Team Yagami Trailer

The team trailers for King of Fighters XIV continue with the Team Yagami trailer. Team Yagami features Iori Yagami, the decidedly unfriendly rival of Kyo Kusanagi, and Vice and Mature. A team combination that is reoccurring throughout the KOF series. Like Kyo, Iori is sporting a new costume coming from KOF XIII (did he join a motorcycle gang?), but the same applies to his two companions! The team embodies a theme of classiness, edge, and brutality. And, for story and gameplay purposes, Iori’s flames are back.

I’d like to take a moment to note that several game conventions and fighting game tournaments will be hosting playable builds of King of Fighters XIV, and demo builds have already been tested in America and Japan so far. Upcoming events include Stunfest 2016 in France this weekend, Combo Breaker in Illinois next week, and CEO 2016 in Florida during June.

Anyway, check out the team trailer below.

Atlus USA Publishing SNK-Playmore’s King of Fighters XIV in North America

Atlus USA officially announced today that they are handling the publishing for the North American release of King of Fighters XIV, the newest upcoming release of the longstanding King of Fighters franchise of fighting games. To celebrate this announcement and to bolster promote the game, Atlus has launched their own website for King of Fighters XIV and has authored a press release detailing some key features.

King of Fighters is a series of 2D fighting games that pits one team of three player-controlled characters against an opponent’s team of three characters. It has long been one of SNK-Playmore’s premier franchises. It has something of a reputation for demanding technical execution for advanced combos and fast-paced gameplay, but these are also considered charm points and high-level matches can be very intense (if EVO 2014 is any indication!) King of Fighters XIV also marks the franchise’s first entry into using 3D models for characters; King of Fighters XIII used sprites instead of 3D models that moved on a 2D plane. Guilty Gear is another series that made the transition to 3D models between Guilty Gear XX and Guilty Gear Xrd; now, one of the last remaining sprite-based 2D fighters is Blazblue.

Check out the website here. There’s not a lot on it at the moment, just a few screenshots and an announcement video. Watch the video (showcasing some gameplay and new characters) below!

The King of Fighters XIV is Arriving to the Americas This Year!

We will reproduce the press release at this article’s end. Some items of note include the 50-character roster (19 of which are new,) efforts to improve netplay (online match spectating!,) and the promise of a strong single-player story mode. Gameplay mechanics are also revamped and there are also beginner-friendly gameplay options that may be utilized.

A few days ago, RiceDigital uploaded an article which speculated that Atlus USA would be publishing the North American release of King of Fighters XIV. Thus far, SNK-Playmore (the developer of the King of Fighters series, and a company with a long history in video game software and hardware) had been handling publishing for the KOF games – with the exception of King of FIghters XII, which was handled by Atlus USA. It was also announced last year that the Chinese technology company Leyou had acquired SNK-Playmore.

Atlus has published several third party games (especially RPGs) in the past. Now that Atlus’s assimilation into Sega is complete, I wonder if Sega’s Western branches may be taking on this same spirit of game publishing that Atlus has done in the past.

In any case, this is good news for KOF fans and fighting game fans in North America, and hopefully Europe will have a release option announced for them soon. The game is due for release in North America and Japan this year. You can find some screenshots of the game featuring the characters Kukri and Mui Mui below the press release.

The legendary fighters in the upcoming THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV will be making their stateside debut thanks to a partnership between SNK PLAYMORE and Atlus U.S.A. The vaunted fighting game series, which first made its debut 1994, is entering a new evolution with THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV thanks to series-first 3D graphics and debuting exclusively on the PlayStation 4 console. THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV will arrive to consoles later in 2016.

THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV Feature Details:

• 3D Evolution: All 50 fighters, movesets and more are rendered in full 3D graphics that preserves the essence of KOF’s visual style but updates it with a whole new dimension.

• The Best Refinement since KOF ’98: Through extensive playtesting and balancing, the controls have been streamlined, and the Combo and Max Mode mechanics have been overhauled to create the most competitive fighter in SNK’s history.

• The KOF Saga Continues: There’s a robust single-player storyline where several years have passed since the previous KOF tournament. Now a worldwide business, the global KOF will decide who is the strongest as both individuals and companies with their own ambitions have come to compete. Players compete against CPU-controlled opponents to unlock the storyline.

• The Best Roster Yet: There are 50 fighters total, with 31 returning from previous entries into the KOF series, and 19 brand new characters. All 50 characters will be available at the game’s launch.

• Revamped Online Experience: THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV has devoted a lot of development time to improving the game’s netcode for vastly improved online gameplay. KOF XIV uses the PS4’s online architecture to have a whole host of online conveniences, from spectating to saving replay/battle data, and having a single online KOF XIV profile to connect with friends.
