Yakuza Zero: Goro Majima’s Cabaret Club Management Sidequest

Not too long ago, we wrote about Kiryu’s major sidequest, Kamurocho Money Island. Siliconera recently produced a writeup describing the major sidequest in Majima’s campaign – the management of the Sunshine cabaret club. The objective here, is to become the premier cabaret club in Osaka. It seems both Kiryu and Majima’s sidequests will have a focus on micromanaging elements.

The army that helps you win this sidequest is certainly different compared to Kiryu’s army. In managing Sunshine, the women make the club and it’s therefore important to choose well. You are provided with a variety of hiring options: women of different body types, personality traits, and more. However, the salaries they ask for vary too. And, do note that such “stats” aren’t always fixed and can be adjusted by talking to the hostesses in classic Yakuza fashion. This has the added benefit of opening up fun bonding activities between Majima and the girls, like karaoke. Other girls can also be found by scouting for them around Soutenbori and by making progress in the Sunshine management sidequest.

It will be important, as club manager, to keep an eye on operations on the ground from time to time. Occasionally you may deal with rowdy customers, and you’ll be servicing both the rich and the poor. It may be possible that Majima will be forced to clean up disturbances in the club if customers become too…undiplomatic. It’s also important to keep an eye on the stamina levels of the working girls. Being overworked means that they will struggle with their jobs, and will in turn produce dissatisfied customers, so be sure to give them a break once in a while.

Success in this game is not merely about staying afloat – Majima’s Sunshine club is competing against other clubs. If Sunshine turns better profits than the competitors, it will boost the club’s reputation (more customers!) and attract new girls interested in working at the club. Eventually, Sunshine can reach a level of success whereby it will drive out competing clubs altogether.

Strolling Through Kamurocho and Soutenbori in Yakuza Zero

Sega recently broadcasted a five-minute video of Yakuza Zero, an occasion notable for being the first footage of the game in motion and also for being broadcast live. The focus of the video is the showcasing of the look and feel of Kamurocho and Soutenbori. The video follows Kiryu and Majima as they stroll through the towns their campaigns take place in. It starts with a walk through Kamurocho and spends the last minute and a half or so showing off Soutenbori. There is no action or fighting. Personally, the long canal in Soutenbori has more of an impact than what I saw in Kamurocho, though I found it nice to see Club Sega again.

Minigames in Yakuza Zero

Minigames and side content always seem to be an important part of the Yakuza series experience. Yakuza Zero will likely uphold that tradition with the new games planned that this Siliconera article teases.

To start, the presence of Sega arcade classics have been a unique selling point in marketing the game. The Sega classics that will be playable include Space Harrier, Outrun, Hang-On and Fantasy Zone, and will be available to either Kazuma Kiryu or Goro Majima. In addition, the games will also have the option of being played through the Playstation Vita. You can find these games at the classic game center locations in Yakuza Zero. The game center will also feature staples such as the crane game.

An English-Subtitled Version of the 15-Minute Yakuza Zero Trailer

A writer for Kotaku East translated the 15-minute Yakuza Zero trailer that came out during this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The translated version of the trailer is watchable only in a player embedded on Kotaku’s website, so be sure to check out the video at this link. This translated video should allow for more insight for English speakers into the drama of Yakuza Zero. While the article itself is a couple of days old, personally I would like to pass it on for those who are not aware of this translation’s existence. We do not advertise any of our sourced sites.

Yakuza Zero Japanese Release Date: March 12, 2015

SegmentNext writes that in a recent livestream, Yakuza series creator and producer Toshihiro Nagoshi revealed that the prequel title Yakuza Zero (subtitle: The Place of Oath) will be released in Japan on March 12, 2015. The game offers players the choice to play as Kazuma Kiryu or Goro Majima through individual story campaigns meant to offer more insight into these popular characters’ pasts.

As far as the release date is concerned, Yakuza Zero releases two weeks earlier than Sword Art Online: Lost Song for the PS3 and within a two week range earlier than Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Senran Kagura: Estival Versus, and Disgaea 5 for PS4. Right now there doesn’t seem to be any competition that may eat into Yakuza Zero’s potential.

Yakuza Zero 15-Minute Story Trailer

Earlier this week Sega broadcast a new trailer for Yakuza Zero through Niconico. It’s a story trailer that focuses on the main scenarios for both Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. The first five minutes, roughly speaking, deal with Kiryu’s scenario as he does dirty work for the Dojima family. The next five minutes deal with Majima’s scenario as he holds himself together working at a cabaret club in the aftermath of his eye being stabbed (a moment with brief allusion.) He also seems to deal with some complex feelings as he encounters a blind woman named Makoto Makimura, and appears to vow to protect her. The last five minutes both escalate the drama of the past footage and serve to wrap up the trailer. Among other things, Kiryu is confronted with the alarming prospect of someone possessing the power to control the operation of Kamurocho and its citizens.

Yakuza Zero New Footage and Summary Trailer (Released 9/25/2014)

The Ryu Ga Gotoku Youtube channel recently uploaded a new trailer to promote Yakuza Zero. The trailer is designed to show off the aspects of the game that have been heavily promoted as of late, including Kiryu’s property management subquest, Majima’s cabaret club/women management subquest, various content featuring the sexy actress contest winners, and footage of battles in motion. Viewers also get a glimpse of some of the wacky minigames being offered, including a disco-themed minigame.

This is also the first time we are seeing Kiryu and Majima fighting in-game. Kiryu’s attacks look mostly familiar but are presented in a flashy way, especially in the dashing. Majima takes flashiness to new heights with his combos. I welcome corrections if I’m wrong, but it appears there are now three different levels of Heat gauge activation, alongside a new type of encounter called Escort Battles, where you protect escorts from harassment from thugs.

Yakuza Zero TGS Trailer and Info Roundup, Official Website Updated

Tokyo Game Show has been especially interesting for Sega, showing off how busy the company has been as of late. A special panel showcasing Yakuza Zero was held at Tokyo Game Show recently, and another trailer for the game was shown off. Sega also updated the official website for the game. This blog entry from “The Kamuro District”, maintained by longtime fan ThePatrick, should prove most helpful for those looking to learn more about the recent website updates.

Yakuza Zero to Feature Playable Sega Classics, New Leveling-Up System

PIctured above is Fantasy Zone for arcades, a franchise of scrolling shooter games similar to Gradius. The Yakuza franchise has routinely offered Sega games as playable within Yakuza titles, and Yakuza Zero will continue that tradition. Gematsu writes that Fantasy Zone, car racer Outrun, rail shooter Space Harrier, and motorcycle racer Super Hang-On will be featured as playable extras within Yakuza Zero’s Game Center. Taking advantage of the PS4-Vita crossplay features, these games will also be playable on the Vita through a special app, just like Yakuza Ishin.

In other news, Yakuza Zero will feature a new leveling-up system where money is used to enhance characters instead of experience points. There are a variety of mini-games through which money can be earned in Yakuza Zero, such as a Batting Cage minigame. However, players can also earn money by executing flashy attacks in battle. Beyond that, both of the playable characters have special money-earning systems unique to their scenarios.

Kazuma Kiryu’s system is “Kamurocho Money Island”, where players use money and relationships to apparently either increase stake in or outright own various businesses and making money off of renting property to them. It seems that, if players wish to make full use of this system, it’s possible to consolidate and monopolize businesses conditions and the public order, which must be challenging to accomplish. Goro Majima’s story will feature the “Soutenbori Night Life Trade Island”, where players operate a cabaret club with the goal of eventually becoming the best one in the region. There are 30 hostesses to choose from who will be integral to achieving this goal

To speak for myself, the lineup that Sega is presenting is especially strong this year. A sizable portion of their prominent active franchises in Japan are being represented with Phantasy Star, Yakuza, Shining, and Hatsune Miku. We are also seeing a push for Sonic Boom in Japan too. Besides the representation for major IP’s, newer franchises such as Hero Bank and The World End Eclipse are being promoted. In addition, Puyo Puyo Tetris and Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax should have broad appeal: the former for its accessibility and crossover novelty and the latter for being a crossover fighter featuring popular characters. The real wildcard here is Atlus and their presentation on the 20th. Hopefully they will have more to offer regarding Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem! I am also excited to finally see what Shining Resonance looks like in action.
