DF Retro Shenmue 2 - A Masterpiece Revisited

Digital Foundry Retro Revisits Shenmue 2

From time to time Digital Foundry revisits classic games in their Digital Foundry Retro articles, and the latest one features Shenmue 2. Around a half our long it’s the longest Digital Foundry Retro video yet, and explores not only the original Dreamcast version, but also the Xbox version, its emulation on Xbox 360, and emulation on PC via DEMUL. They also compare the Japanese and English voice acting and the work of the modding community on the Shenmue Dojo forums. It’s definitely worth watching for anyone interested in Shenmue, Dreamcast or just video games in general. Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown Now Also Backward Compatible On Xbox One

After announcing backwards compatibility for Bayonetta on the Xbox One earlier on, Microsoft have now announced another SEGA Xbox360 title that can be played on Xbox One, namely Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. Microsoft has been steadily working on making more and more games backwards compatible with the Xbox One, and these include plenty of past Xbox Live Arcade SEGA games such as Crazy Taxi, NiGHTS into DreamsSEGA Bass Fishing and Jet Set Radio. Earlier on, it was revealed that the game would be included in Yakuza 6 as well. At this point it’s not clear if a complete version of the game will also make its way to PlayStation 4.

Bayonetta Xbox One Retro-Compatible

Bayonetta Has Been Added to the Xbox One Backward Compatibility List

MIcrosoft has updated its list of backward compatible Xbox One games, and it includes SEGA and PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta. Over a year ago, SEGA has already confirmed that the game would be made backward compatible, and now we’re finally seeing the result of that. At the time of release Bayonetta received very favorable reviews on Xbox360 and PS3 (although SEGA’s PS3 conversion was criticized for its poor performance).

Although it’s often referred to as a commercial failure, the game still went on to sell 1.1 million copies worldwide. A number that plenty of other SEGA games never managed to reach. The sequel was picked up and published by Nintendo for the Wii U, and it’s therefore unlikely to ever appear on any non-Nintendo platform. Along with Vanquish, the original Bayonetta is a much requested PC port from fans, so hopefully it will eventually make its way to that platform.
