SEGA’s Mobile Game Cranky Food Friends is Closing Down

Sega of America’s mobile game studios appear to be having a rough time recently. Earlier on, SEGA announced that they were making a reduction in their mobile work force. As a result, everyone at Three Rings Design Inc. lost their job. More recently, SEGA announced that they would be closing down Puzzle & Glory, a mobile match-3 RPG game from Demiurge Studios (acquired by SEGA in 2015). And now SEGA have announced that yet another mobile game will be closing down, namely Cranky Food Friends. The game will be shutting down on March 31, 2016. The game is mostly known to SEGA fans because of the fact that it’s a reskin of Puyo Puyo Quest!!, one of SEGA’s most successful mobile games in Japan. The reskin was a controversial decision, and apparently didn’t help to assure the game’s success in the West.

Chain Chronicle x Valkyria Chronicles - Imca

Valkyria Chronicles X Chain Chronicle: Also Featuring Imca

Expecting the videos for Welkin and Kurt?

Surprise – it’s Imca! She’s rather popular in her own right, a strong fighter of few words but lots of spirit. One interesting to note about Imca is how all of the blue in her design stands out compared to the rest of the Nameless. Having so much color among a group with a muted outfit is visually appealing, in my opinion.

Hopefully there are no mushrooms to give her any trouble in Chain Chronicle. With her trusty weapon Var in tow, not much should be a problem for her to handle. Anyway, check out the short character video for Imca below.

Chain Chronicle X Valkyria Chronicles - Alicia

Valkyria Chronicles X Chain Chronicle Crossover Trailers! Featuring Alicia and Riela

The Valkyria Chronicles series (specifically, strategy RPG titles) is crossing over with the Japanese version of Chain Chronicle. Chain Chronicle is a popular mobile game series in Japan and is even receiving its own anime adaptation. Valkyria Chronicles characters will be featured as selectable units for the game. Sega Networks has produced two short trailers for Alicia and Riela, two of Valkyria’s heroines, fairly popular in their own right, and both of whom are Valkyria.

The global version of Chain Chronicle will be shutting down by the end of February, so sadly there isn’t any chance that this content will be made available outside of the Japanese version.

Wondering where Welkin and Kurt are? You can probably expect to see them in the near future…It seems their cards are ranked slightly lower than the heroines’ cards, though! In any case, check out the trailers below. The original seiyuu have returned to voice their characters.

SEGA’s “Liberation of the Blue Sky” Turns Out to be a Mobile RPG

SEGA recently registered a trademark for “Soukuu no Liberation” (‘Liberation of the Blue Sky’), which had people speculating about what game the title could be referring to. SEGA has now officially revealed the game, and it turns out to be a new mobile RPG for iOS and Android. This probably won’t be too much of a surprise, given how SEGA has been churning out a lot of mobile games over the past years. The story involves the hero “Loran” as he attempts to lead an army to retake the Imperial city from an invading force. He signs a contract with Queen Rivera from the Underworld (who appears to be another major character in the game) which gives Loran access to a power to crystallize monsters.

Puyo Puyo!! Touch Gets New Trailer

SEGA have posted a new trailer for Puyo Puyo!! Touch, their upcoming mobile game for iOS and Android. The gameplay differs from regular Puyo Puyo in the sense that you need to swipe Puyo’s around. Swiping one Puyo on top of another one will make the latter change to the colour of the Puyo you dragged on top of it. Connect four or more Puyo’s of the same color and they’ll be cleared from the board. Clearing them also allows you to “fire” at objects outside of the board, as you can see in the trailer.

SEGA Reveals New Trailer for The World End Eclipse

The World End Eclipse, Sega’s upcoming free-to-play RPG for mobile, PC and PS Vita, has received a new Japanese trailer. The trailer shows the game’s premise, a world that was destroyed by dragons and where humanity is now trying to rebuild their civilization (in fact, they’re building their towns on the back of the dragons’ remains). Aside from the simulation element in the game, where you build your town, the game’s combat system is also shown. The combat seems like a variation on the grid based combat system seen in other SEGA mobile games like Chain Chronicle, where characters move in separate lines and advance towards the enemy. At the end of the video, we also get to hear an excerpt of the game’s theme song by May’n. Watch the new trailer below!

The World End Eclipse Pre-Registration Starts in Japan, New Trailer Revealed

It’s been rather quiet regarding The World End Eclipse, Sega’s upcoming RPG for mobile, PC and PlayStation Vita. The game was initially meant to be released end 2014, but it was delayed and very little information about the game was made available throughout this year.

But today, Sega announced it will be opening up pre-registration for the game in Japan. As of now, people in Japan can now register for the mobile and/or the PC version for the game. Those that do will get a few bonus items when the game launches, and registering for both the mobile and PC version will grant more items than registering for only one of them.
